Upcoming West Metro Veterans Fair (WMVF)

UPCOMING WEST METRO VETERANS FAIR (WMVF)

Once again, Lakewood is gearing up for their annual West Metro Veterans Fair (WMVF).  Veteran Scott Hefty, the City of Lakewood Municipal Court Chief Probation Officer, is at the helm of this important event.  Please share this information with our veteran community .  This year’s date is Tuesday, September 26, 2017 @ 1pm to 4pm.

From Scott Hefty:  “The West Metro Veterans Fair (WMVF) is now in its 5th year.   This event originally started out as a grass-roots endeavor in 2013.   It was developed by the City of Lakewood to provide an informative forum for veterans and their family members.  Veterans were able to learn about and access the wide variety of services and interventions available by non-profit organizations as well as at the local, state and the federal government level. This veterans fair has grown into the event it is today  through the efforts of many, including Lodge #1777.

Pete Roybal (City Councilman),  and Cliff Fejfar (VV#1071) from last year’s WMVF event.

Since 2014, the Lakewood Elks Lodge #1777 has partnered with the WMVF by not only providing the space to host this annual event, but also much more in terms of support, donations and logistics. Without the Lakewood Elks Club unwavering support, the West Metro Veterans Fair would have never evolved into what it is today.   The WMVF is designed to increase awareness of non-profit programs and services available for veterans and their families by highlighting employment, housing, educational, recreational and resource opportunities.  This is a veteran-driven and community inspired event with the goal of connecting veterans/families with people and resources.

As the City of Lakewood Municipal Court Chief Probation Officer serving the veteran community through our Veteran Court Process, as well as a retired U.S. Army veteran K-9 Handler, I have witnessed over the past four WMVF’s the true benefit arising from putting on this event.   The value of collaboration and information sharing amongst participating non-profits on available programs within the veteran community, is second to none.

Additionally, we are again having a free “backyard” cookout this year. This serves as a great opportunity for our veterans to gather and share their history.  Looking forward to seeing you there.
