(IAVA) Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America
What an awesome year Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America has had! For those of us who participate in Veteran organization’s in our community, chances are you have heard of IAVA. My introduction to IAVA was on Veterans day. Texas Roadhouse-Sheridan was hosting Veterans from all conflicts, and I had the opportunity to meet many of their members.
If IAVA is new to you, following are some important points and a video regarding this organization from their website. To start off, they have a program called VetTogethers.
VetTogethers: “VetTogethers are community. Veterans and supporters share in a common goal to (re)build camaraderie. Driven by our growing member base, VetTogethers boost local leaders who foster a strong peer network and keep conversations going with every monthly event.”
One-On-One Support (RRRP): “We know coming home isn’t easy. If you’re a Veteran or a Veteran family member facing transition-related challenges or questions, RRRP can help. Whether you’re thinking about school, need help navigating the VA, or are confronting significant challenges like unemployment, financial or legal struggles, or homelessness, we can get you connected to the quality resources you need to get back on your feet and meet your goals.
To be connected to one of our Veteran transition managers, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, call 1-855-91-RAPID (1-855-917-2743), or fill out the form below. (Form found on their website) We will respond within 1 business day.”
Education Programs: “IAVA has always been a champion for Veteran education. We played a historic role in passage of the Post 9/11 GI Bill, and we’re still supporting Veterans to succeed in school, from accessing benefits and to connecting with peer communities.”
Volunteer Opportunities: “IAVA is always seeking dedicated civilian and Veteran volunteers to support our mission and grow our reach. Opportunities range throughout the year, from involvement in our membership events or campaigns across the country.”
