VETERAN AND SERVICE MEMBER DISCOUNTS
Happy July 4th! For this independence day topic, we decided to acknowledge veteran and service member discounts. Angelica Marie Dela Cruz from DealHack has kindly provided an updated list for StarSpangledBoomerang.com to share.
From their website: “The Dealhack Military Discount Guide is the result of our quarterly survey of brands that offer active-duty military and veteran discounts. Every three months, we independently verify each and every store on this list.” Continue reading Veteran and Service Member Discounts
OPERATION HOMEFRONT: On the eve of Thanksgiving 2017, I realize there is so much to be grateful for! I am thankful for the opportunity to gather together to share a meal with family and friends. At this celebration, we have the religious freedom to bow our heads (or not) and give thanks with any faith we choose to participate in.
I am thankful for and have a deep appreciation for those who have made the choice to serve our country, both past and present, and their families. Making a commitment to wear the uniform does not usually include a leave for the holiday, or a large budget for the family’s holiday that they are separated from. Undergoing physical risks are also endured as part of their decision to serve. I am thankful for the sacrifices and successes made by our service members, both past and present.

Operation Homefront provides a way for civilians and their communities to show appreciation for service members, wounded warriors, and their families who have sacrificed so much. operationhomefront.org/ Continue reading I am thankful for Operation Homefront

UPCOMING WEST METRO VETERANS FAIR (WMVF)
Once again, Lakewood is gearing up for their annual West Metro Veterans Fair (WMVF). Veteran Scott Hefty, the City of Lakewood Municipal Court Chief Probation Officer, is at the helm of this important event. Please share this information with our veteran community . This year’s date is Tuesday, September 26, 2017 @ 1pm to 4pm.
From Scott Hefty: “The West Metro Veterans Fair (WMVF) is now in its 5th year. This event originally started out as a grass-roots endeavor in 2013. It was developed by the City of Lakewood to provide an informative forum for veterans and their family members. Veterans were able to learn about and access the wide variety of services and interventions available by non-profit organizations as well as at the local, state and the federal government level. This veterans fair has grown into the event it is today through the efforts of many, including Lodge #1777.

Recently I read an article regarding being grateful for all of our blessings and people we may take for granted. The author suggested taking time from our busy schedule to think about who would be included in our cornucopia for Thanksgiving, instead of flowers or food.
With this website, we try to honor and demonstrate our gratitude for Veterans, service members and their families in our military community. We give thanks for all the brave men and woman from all conflicts who have put their own lives on hold, holidays included, for our freedom. Are they included in our cornucopia? You bet! THANK YOU VETERANS!
This website, Star Spangled Boomerang, was built to honor our Veterans, Service Members, and their families. It was also created to encourage civilians to get involved with our military community. After more than two years, we have had the opportunity to interact with countless dedicated and caring individuals, both in and out of the military community. What an incredible journey and privilege it has been.
Our name, Star Spangled Boomerang, is a reminder that for every action there is a reaction. When a civilian takes action and becomes a service member, serves his/her country and returns home wounded, for some, Operation FINALLY HOME reacts by offering help. Tuesday, September 20, 2016, 1pm – 5pm, Lakewood Elks Lodge #1777, 1455 Newland Street, Lakewood
Greetings from Scott Hefty,
To everybody who has agreed to participate in the 2016 West Metro Veterans Fair (WMVF) – THANK YOU! We have 39 non-profits on this year’s vendor list which is a new record for us. Speaking of records, if we want to increase the number of WMVF attendees from 2015 we need everybody to pitch in and help spread the word by posting posters, handing out rack cards, posting WMVF information on your social media websites (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.) and in your newsletters as well as sharing this information with any veterans or other non-profits you are in contact with in order to get the word out to our veteran community.
