Shine for Military Children

Shine For Military Children

16573Whether our hearts long for a Norman Rockwell, Chef Marcus Samuelsson or Chef Wilo Benet inspired joyful celebration, tables all across America will have empty chairs this holiday season.

Many of our active military service men and woman will be missing.  Their jobs, ensuring our freedom around the globe, takes precedence over celebrating with loved ones.

Regardless of your cultural heritage, family and friends are the touchstone that create the memories we cherish, especially for our children.  Military sons and daughters are not only uprooted from one state to another, changing schools, friends and activities, they must deal with the absence of their mother or father.

A challenging task for these dear ones, especially so during the holidays.  “We wait. We hope. We pray.  Until you’re home again.” Continue reading Shine for Military Children

YMCA Camp for Military Children

YMCA Camp for Military Children

Sometimes a child’s best summer memories are camp memories.  Whether they were enrolled in day camp or several days grouped together, songs were sung, and new friendships could blossom. If you grew up in the city, camp may have been the only time to really experience the great outdoors, including sleeping under the stars.  AWESOME!

The YMCA camp for military children with a deployed parent fills up quickly.   Information from the YMCA website.

Department of Interior Video

Department of Interior Video

There were many stories, comments, poems, and prayers that were highlighted for Veterans Day this week.  After seeing the disturbing images from Paris, I  thought it might be a good idea to add another page to honor our military community.  A friend of mine just sent me this Department of Interior video which I would like to share with all of you.  It is on you tube. Operation Holiday Joy

OPERATION HOLIDAY JOY:  It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is now less than two weeks away, and almost time to go through the garage for the holiday decorations.  Thinking ahead,  I have been looking for a special way to honor the families, especially the children of our military community.  There are many worthy organizations out there providing assistance, however, this year I plan on supporting Operation Holiday Joy.  Operation Holiday Joy began in 2004 and 100% of received donations goes to help create a better holiday for our service members and their families. Once Texas Roadhouse opened their doors today, our Veterans from all age groups and conflicts were welcomed with a free lunch or dinner according to Steve Peck.   Steve is a managing partner at the Texas Roadhouse in Englewood, Colorado.  He said they were happy to  provide our Veterans with a thank you meal as they have done so much for our country.  This particular location has been participating in this Veterans Day Texas Roadhouse tradition for four years.  When asked what the ballpark dollar amount of this day would cost Texas Roadhouse, he said over $10,000.   Continue reading Veterans Day @ Texas Roadhouse

A Grateful Nation on Veterans Day

A GRATEFUL NATION ON VETERANS DAY

1016141538f

Whatever your age or station in life, a service member who has worn the uniform defending our country, has led the way.  It is only fitting that we take the time to express the value of these men and woman- our Veterans.  Today, a grateful nation acknowledges all of those who have gone before us, regardless of the danger.

On a personal level, in the 70’s while attending high school, the draft for Vietnam existed.  Lives were not only changed, but lost.  The military conflict divided America as we witnessed real-life images for the first time on our living room televisions.  To our Veterans: “No matter what conflict, whether you went by choice, or were drafted, you have my heartfelt thanks and appreciation.” Continue reading A Grateful Nation on Veterans Day
